Mr. Murphy and I are thrilled to announce that Fox Hill will be hosting Global Maker Day next Tuesday, October 24th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Learning Commons. We are especially excited to share that the event will be shown to a global audience via YouTube Live. This live broadcast will allow Fox Hill students to share what they build and create with other students and teachers from all over the world. For many students, they will experience for the very first time what it is like to be “learning without walls.”
Joining us for this special day will be the founder of Global Maker Day Jaime Donally as well as Dr. Marialice Curran and her son Curran Dee. Dr. Curran is the founder of the Digital Citizenship Institute and her son Curran is the founder of DigCit Kids, a digital citizenship program created by kids, for kids. Global Maker Day at Fox Hill will focus on the theme, “Creating Kindness.” We will offer students eight different maker sessions including:
- Makey Makey Kits
- Digital storytelling with the Green Screen app by Do Ink
- Garage Band
- Computer programming with Sphero robots
- Trash Origami
- Nature’s Art Box
- Cardboard Creations
- Virtual Reality station
Our goal is to provide students with the opportunity to tinker, play, build, and explore. We are confident students will be inspired to take risks, problem solve, and collaborate to create kindness. This theme was inspired by one of our school wide values here at Fox Hill and we look forward to the creative ways our students will show what kindness means to them!
