Global Read Aloud 2016

In 2010, Pernille Ripp started the Global Read Aloud “with a simple goal in mind; one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to make a truly global connection with more than 1,000,000 students having participated.”

This year students at Pine Glen (with students around the world) read picture books that were illustrated by Lauren Castillo. (Lauren Castillo wrote and illustrated Nana in the City and The Troublemaker as well.)

After reading Nana in the City, we asked Lauren Castillo two questions via Twitter for which she responded.

Some Pine Glen students read Nana in the City and The Troublemaker with Mrs. Myer, the teacher librarian at Memorial, and some students from Memorial via Google Hangouts.

Last week we read Eve Bunting’s Yard Sale (illustrated by Lauren Castillo). Mrs. Carlson’s Class (from Connecticut) asked us the following questions via Twitter.

3rd and 4th grade students recorded their responses to questions from Mrs. Carlson’s Class via Padlet. You can check them out below.
